Mentoring MUSE offers financial assistance for each mentee to aid in furthering her goals. A mentee can apply for financial assistance after showing consistent progress for at least three months. A mentoring pair can fill out a financial assistance application outlining why she needs a particular item or service. For example, she may need a laptop to attend school or new tires for her car to get to work. She may be behind on her utilities or rent, has regained custody of her child, and needs help with furniture for their new apartment. She may want to take a course, such as Excel or medical billing. Financial assistance can bring the mentee closer to her goals in such situations. In addition, Mentoring MUSE has found that mentees in the program can benefit from scholarship money to pursue their college or vocational education. Financial assistance can also be used for this purpose.
There is an application process with an advisory board committee reviewing applications and awarding scholarships. The application process is as follows: the mentor and the mentee each provide a statement explaining why the item will help the mentee achieve her goal. If the item or service is approved, Mentoring MUSE pays the vendor directly and provides the mentee with the item.
